Helena Public Schools

Helena’s first public schoolhouse, Central School, opened in 1876. Central School featured kindergarten, graded classrooms, and a high school curriculum. Helena’s first high school opened in 1893, and a new high school was completed in August 1935, but was heavily damaged by the 1935 Helena earthquakes. Following repairs, the high school became Helena Junior High (now Helena Middle School), and Helena High School moved to its current location. Capital High School, Helena’s second high school, opened in 1973. Over the years, several elementary schools and two middle schools were established to serve the community’s growing population. Today, Helena Public Schools consists of ten elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools.

In 2011, Electro Controls provided and installed controls at Rossiter Elementary as part of the North Pod HVAC Upgrade project. The project included controls for the hot water system, boilers, pumps, AHUs, VAVs, and FCUs. Smith Elementary School underwent a $1.6 million HVAC system upgrade, which was completed prior to the 2026–2027 school year. Electro Controls was subcontracted by Tri-County Mechanical to install DDC controls as part of this major upgrade. Most recently, Electro Controls was awarded the Capital High School Transformation project and will begin installing and upgrading controls in late 2026, with work continuing through 2027.

Electro Controls is proud to continue its relationship with Helena Public Schools and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the district’s facilities. From past HVAC control upgrades to the upcoming Capital High School Transformation project, we appreciate the opportunity to support the district with reliable, modern control systems that enhance building performance, comfort, and efficiency. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Helena Public Schools and supporting its facilities for years to come.
